Artist talk Amy Pekal
Our reality is one of many realities; shaped by the transfer of knowledge between western progress and ancestral histories. The future hinges on our ability to recognize the symbiosis between nature and culture as the foundation to shape our common narratives with nature.
As an artist, Amy creates visual ethnographies as a method to measure the ways varied cultures place value on nature vis-a-vis economic, spiritual, or political value. During the artist in residency, Amy investigated the current conditions of transition, post-quarantine as an opportunity in learning to live as naturecultures. Framing Kinship focused specifically on rebuilding community, connection to place and restoring our feeling of being at home and belonging in the world, in spite of global uncertainty. These are essential components of building a different perspective of naturecultures within public spaces; the rural and the urban specifically in Amsterdam and the Dutch polder region.
On the 7th of August, Amy will present the outcome of her research. There will be room for discussion and some drinks afterwards. We hope to see you the 7th of August!
