Cultureland Artists 2017 – SOFIA VAN LEEUWEN

WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED AN AVOCADO PIT PROVIDES A SHADE OF PINK?
Sofia van Leeuwen, *1981

The project explores the idea of “not-landscape” through the writings of Rosalind Krauss. It presents new colourful paintings inspired by the plants and pigments of the Dutch landscape, including those found on the kitchen table. Her work draws on a discussion of the contemporary art scene.

Sofia van Leeuwen (1981) is an American artist with Dutch roots, working in combined media and collaborations. She questions the metonymic relationship between archaic forms inspired by nature and rituals found in everyday life.
